Who I am and why I do this

Helping businesses succeed by putting people at the heart of strategy

After three decades working in and alongside leadership teams, I’ve seen one thing repeatedly: organisations don’t fail because of a lack of vision, strategy or ambition. They fail when they can’t bring their people with them.

I’ve built my career helping organisations bridge that gap — aligning people strategy with business goals, enabling confident leadership and creating the conditions for real, lasting change. Not the kind that sounds good in a plan, but the kind that actually lands.

My journey

I started in HR because I believed people were the difference between average and outstanding performance. That belief has only strengthened.

I’ve worked across a range of industries, led major transformations, shaped leadership cultures and supported businesses through high-stakes change. At Barclays, I worked across a range of HR disciplines supporting an array of different business units. At the CIPD, I led from the centre of the profession, working at the forefront of thinking on strategic HR and leadership.

Strategically People exists because I wanted to bring that experience directly to the organisations that need it. It’s where I do my best work: partnering with CEOs, HR leaders and senior teams to deliver people-led change with confidence and impact.

What I believe

  • People strategy should be as intentional as business strategy
  • Great leadership creates clarity, confidence and momentum
  • Change only works when people understand it, believe in it and know their role in making it happen

Why organisations work with me

I’m not here to write policies or deliver a playbook. I’m here to help you lead — and land — the change your business needs.

Clients work with me because I bring calm authority, strategic thinking and real-world experience. Sometimes as a consultant. Sometimes as an extended part of their leadership team in a fractional HR Director role. Always as a trusted partner who knows how to turn good thinking into action.

If you’re leading change — or planning to — let’s talk.

My background

I’ve spent over 30 years leading HR and organisational change at senior levels — helping CEOs and leadership teams navigate complexity, drive transformation and create cultures where people and performance thrive.

I’ve worked in retail banking, professional bodies and global membership organisations, holding roles including Director of People, OD & Workplace at the CIPD, and Director of HR & Workplace Performance at CIMA. I’ve operated globally, with HR leadership responsibility for teams in the UK, US, India, Malaysia and Europe, and I’ve worked closely with CEOs, Boards and senior teams as a trusted advisor and strategic partner.

Along the way, I’ve led high-impact change programmes, cultural integrations, workplace transformations and senior team restructures. I now bring that experience to client organisations — through short consulting engagements or as a fractional HR Director, working as an embedded part of the senior team.

My mission

To help organisations create workplaces that are both inspiring and high-performing — by bringing strategic focus to people, leadership and change.

Values-led

THOUGHTFUL DESIGN

I love making things better; be it more effective, easier, faster or more efficient. I like to reflect on what was done in the past and explore how it can be improved.

MUTUAL RESPECT

True partnerships are built on trust and respect. Individual contributions matter, as does hearing the thoughts and ideas of engaged colleagues.

GROWTH

The world is made up of amazingly diverse people, each with their own set of talents and aspirations. I love helping people and organisations to succeed and grow.

SIMPLICITY

Perfection is attained not when there’s nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to take away. I'm pragmatic and get to the root of things fast.

PARTNERSHIP

I created Strategically People to help you to be your best. It’s all about great relationships and enjoying working together to get results.

HR consulting

Access to expertise

I lead all client work personally, but when the scale or scope of a project calls for it, I draw on a small group of trusted associates to extend capacity.

This ensures we keep pace without compromising quality; whether that’s delivering large-scale change or supporting widespread engagement.
